Not that this really has anything to do with Call of Cthulhu, but I guess that I have been influenced from the monsters of that setting. There is just something with tentacle monsters that appeals to me and not in an Asian manga kind of way (please make a note of that ;-) )

I was not sure if I was to dress the girl or not, but after a few tests, it simply looks a lot cleaner and better this way.

Painted using Photoshop with a Wacom tablet over a long period of time (painted one or two hour every now and then. Reference from different places within my own collection.

can't tell if the tentacles are statues or live, or even turned to stone. I like that effect. This character is better in the face, she looks confident.

The head is not too big. Great job, the breast detail is remarkable. So life-like

The tattoos are beautiful, and I think her face would look more intese if she had her eyes on her staff, or whatever it is she's doing, instead of toward the camera.

Damn ! That is PHO-TO-RE-A-LIS-TIC
Wow. I'm going to say it's totally amazing and I'm blown away first. I'm not usually a fan of nude paintings, but in this case I think you're right. She really does look best nude, and anything more would detract from the effect.
Now I'm going to tell you the only two things that reveal that this isn't a photo:

1) Her hair. The fact that it's not totally realistic doesn't really detract from the picture, but it is a tell. I wouldn't bother to change it if I were you, though, unless it really starts to bug you. Just think of it as an area you can improve when you're looking for a challenge. ;)

2) The staff. The lighting on the staff doesn't seem to have enough contrast on it to completely jive with the light source you have. The rest of the objects in the picture all have very dark shadows and very bright highlights. It's not much of a mistake, but just enough to look off. This I think you should fix.

Otherwise, I'm pretty much in love. It's amazing. Keep up the good work! ;)

This is a beautiful piece of work. Sensual, strong.

The only thing that stands out to me in an odd way is her hair. I don't know if it's the lighting, or the texture.
La-Puce Featured By Owner Oct 28, 2007
The lighting on her body is especially perfect. She is definitively nicer nude... Because of her skin so nice,
and tattoo on it... Only one thing I don't understand but it's me... The way she watch is very hard.

henning Featured By Owner Sep 8, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
Thanks, the website is getting a bit old. Should start thinking about re-designing it, lol.
I completed traditional art school 14-15 years ago, so this is basically self taught I guess :-)

Holy fudge on a stick! When I grow up I wanna be just like you! Ha ha! ;) Great pic overall, I especially have got to give you complements on (with the fear of sounding childish and / or pervy) the nipples and breasts. Most people making these kind of pics have a tendency of overdoing it, giving tha laydeez huge oversized silly cone tits, but I think your (haha) nips look very natural.
The lighting is sick. You must have used some photo reference on that area, no? The body also appears to have weight, which is always a challenge, at least when I draw people. As far as the head goes, I'm might agree a bit with jaspergasper, but that's like winning a Ferrari and complaining that the floormats are black instead of red. Godt jobba, Henning! :)
henning Featured By Owner Aug 19, 2007  Professional Digital Artist
Takker :-)
I use references for all my work (in the sense of looking at a photograph, not using photo-parts in the painting). There are simply things when it comes to light and shadows that the brain can't figure out on its own, so looking at the real thing sure helps. :-)
