Another card illustrations for Call of Cthulhu collectible card game by Fantasy Flight Games. This time I got some really wierd tasks, and it was hard, hehe. This dude is Nodens, some mythological God-creature, and don't ask me how he made it into the Cthluhu Mythos, lol.

Remember that the size of this illustrations are to be used on tiny cards, so the details have been made with this in mind

I don't really think the Elder Gods are quite as un-Lovecraftian as people make them out to be. While their goals and morals may somewhat match up with those of humans, that simply means they're in the same boat. Just because two groups are allied against a common foe doesn't mean either group is good or evil (though I do have to, to an extent, dispute Lovecraft's 'no good or evil' viewpoint). Another species on another planet may of goals and morals more matching the Outer Gods.

Or another way to put it; the Great Old Ones and Outer Gods want the universe and planets to be their home and to be shaped to their needs (like how we humans shape our environment). The Elder Gods are the ones living in the universe at the moment and they want to keep things their way because it's currently their home (like the Europeans and First Nations in North America). Likewise clearly the Elder Gods had, in the past, been the ones on the outside and they wanted the space the Outer Gods had so they took it and made it the way they wanted it.

Yeah! Elder Gods are not "too good" either, Nodens likes to hunt indiscriminately. Yet they aren't apeshit crazy about wiping out humanity or mass raping entire planets in a orgy of insanity.

They just like chilling, whereas Old Ones have issues with current universal laws.

Well, he figures in "The Strange High house in the Mist" and the novel "Dream Quest of unknown Kadath". Whereas seeing a Great Old One causes a sanity-drain, seeing an Elder God causes awe and reverence. They are not benign in the human sense, but their affairs only intercept mankind's at points .

August Derleth, unable to stomach Lovecraft's atheistic chaotic purposeless viewpoint of the universe, added the Elder Gods as benign-oid beings who imprisoned the Great Old Ones (the ancients could not understand that the Great Old Ones were dormant and dreaming because the stars were "not right" and felt that an outside opposing force was responsible.
