Quentyn Martell by henning Quentyn Martell by henning
:icondonotplz::iconusemyartplz:

This is an illustration for Fantasy Flight Games collectible card game named A Game of Thrones, which is based on the world of best-selling author George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice & Fire. This belongs to the Five Kings Edition.

The character is Quentyn Martell. He was fostered at a young age by Lord Yronwood, and served as a page, then a squire, and is now a knight.

Illustrations for card games like this always have short deadlines, and are supposed to be viewed on a smaller scale than here.

Could probably be just a little bit darker, with a more serious expression.

Alright well, I can't comment on any of the others, because I havn't gotten to those parts of the books yet in my re-reading, and this one... Quentyn hasn't even appeared in the books yet. By the way, are they still making these cards?

Yeah, they are still going strong and making these cards. I have another batch of 7 or so illustrations that I can't release quite yet, and I am starting another batch over the weekend.

It seems like a fairly successful card game.

Nah, I look at references while painting. There are many things the brain just can't emulate on its own ;-)

There are many ways of using "references". Some artists actually copy/paste from the pictures into the paintings, claiming to have painted things. That's a shame as this has even been revealed from leading artists. But the matter of using references the right way, to look at what things looks like in real life is no shame. This is what artists have done for thousands of years. Don't you think Michelangelo had people over posing for him when he painted his beautiful art? Hehe. It's a great way to study and understand realism :-)

:blushes: that is very true!!! I guess I felt a little inferior to other artists who claim to get everything from their head and I didnt think of the amazing ones that did use references like I do.

OHMIGAW. :jawdrop: I hope you do more of these. I absolutely adore those books, and this is by far the best art of characters from that series that I've found so far. Keep it up, please!! :heart:
